Leather skirt wearers, unite!

I have been feeling a little ill for the past couple of days, I even spent the entire day in bed yesterday. I am feeling a lot better today, still a bit shaky though, but of course that hasn't stopped me from engaging in wardrobe experiments.

The other day I was talking to a friend about leather skirts. What is it about leather skirts always drawing the wrong kind of attention? Why do people think they are "sexy"? Leather skirts being associated with sex reminds me of a recent conversation I had with another friend of mine, who thinks that over-the-knee boots (with or without heels) are only to be worn by prostitutes. How narrow-minded! To me, my black leather skirt is one of the most practical pieces of clothing I have: it looks powerful, fresh, modern and edgy, it is easy to dress up or down, it goes with anything, and it is very comfortable.

I have read in the newspapers that there is some serious sh*t going on in the financing industry. Does this mean that you would not give me an extra, say, 1000 euros so that I could buy myself some cool futuristic ankle boots? I am looking forward to your reply, as I am confident that you would not let a desperate young woman down.

Staying warm

It is that time of the year again - it seems to me that everyone is sick. I have felt as if I might be coming down with a cold for the past couple of days, so I have been wearing ridiculous amounts of layers, thinking that keeping myself warm might help me battle the evil viruses.

It is also the perfect excuse to wear my new wool coat. I really like the boxy shape; it almost looks like it could be an old man's coat.

More flower power

What is the positive version of "when it rains, it pours"? More flowers came my way today, although this time they were given to me by a happy customer who thinks that I am good at my job. It is always a pleasure to receive flowers, be it as a token of love or appreciation of what I do for living.

I love the shapes (or shapelessness) of these outfits, and oh, those shoes! I really want a pair of chunky yet feminine ankle boots! The editorial is called Silhouettes, the photos are by Nadir, styling is by Paolo Turina, and the whole thing can be found in the September issue of Amica.

It almost looks as if I dressed according to the colour palette of my flower bouquet today. By the way, no, it is not that I am walking around exposing my bare thighs that have turned purple because of the cold, thank you very much... They are pink tights, can't you tell..?!

Magazine of my dreams

I finally, finally, got my hands on a concrete copy of Lula magazine! This story portrays exactly how I would want to make a vintage-y look modern. The editorial is called Tender to the Blues, it is shot by Sandra Freij and styled by Sarah Cobb.

My yesterday's outfit turned out a little too grungy for my liking... Don't they say to never go for a trend you have lived through once already..? (Then again, when was I ever interested in style rules, unless they are my own..?)

Someone likes me, someone likes me not

I only thought that it happened in movies: one is at work, minding one's own business, when a delivery man comes in with a huge bouquet of flowers, calls out your name, and there you are, stunned, blushing, but happy, trying to figure out what on earth just happened. Anyway, it turns out that this does take place in real life, and yes, it seems that there is something else in the air these days than just freezing cold drizzle... I, for all people, have an admirer who sends me flowers to my work place..!

This particular kittie, however, would certainly not be sending me flowers even if she could. She is not that fond of me right now.

Poor Illusia had to be taken to the vet on Monday because she seems to have a problem with her skin. I feel so bad for her, having to wear this awful collar, even though it is for her own good. She is disliking it a lot more than I am, I am sure.

This is what I wore today. I forgot to take a close-up picture of the brooch - it is a green butterfly, a wonderful flea market find from a couple of weeks back. The top and the dress are from H&M, the tights are from Indiska, and the shoes by Vagabond.

To have but not to wear

As some of you might have noticed, my friend Minni gives me a lot of stuff. She is currently trying to get rid of the result of her having been a manic collector of all sorts of items for the past, umm, many, many years. Since I still am a manic collector of all sorts of items myself, I am more than happy to ease her burden. However, things are starting to get out of hand. Minni's sister, also a former collector, has also decided to get rid of things. What am I supposed to do when clothes like these are being thrown at me for mere pennies?

These are all great dresses, no doubt about it. The question is: will I ever wear them? I spent the entire spring and summer thrifting wonderful clothes, but I have not really gotten the chance to wear them much at all. After all, there are only so many clothes one can wear per each day. Would it be wrong of me to just want to own these dresses, even if I know that I might not wear them? Surely I should tell Minni's sister to take them to the flea market, as I am convinced there are a lot of people out there who would get more wear out of these wonderful items than myself.


Take this Vuokko dress above, or the Marimekko one below. These are fabulous dresses, right? But would I really wear the orange stripes as boldly as they deserve to be worn? And could I pull off the granny-chic look in the purple dress without looking as if I have escaped from another decade?


Or what about this one then? Where could I really wear this?

This is what I wore today, and looking at the outfit I chose for myself this morning, and comparing it to the photos above, I wonder again: How do we choose our styles? Do we choose them at all, or do we just drift into wearing certain pieces more than others?

Picture this

I got this wonderful Swedish book from Minni. It is about old scrapbooks and the history of collectable images.

These images were my favourites. For some reason I have a feeling that biking used to be a lot more exciting and fun than what it is now...

I got distracted this morning while trying to figure out which clothes to wear, and accidentally left my sock container unattended as I left the room. I was away for about five minutes, and as I went back, this was the sight I witnessed:
