Enough, enough already!!!

I bought these Diesel ankle boots in Milan last week. I also bought a pair of thigh-high boots, more of which tomorrow, because my camera's battery died mid-shooting just now. Add those black ankle boots from a couple weeks back, and hmm, perhaps there has been another pair that I have forgotten to mention, and my total for shoes purchased in 2009 equals more than it should, especially considering that I am supposed to be on strike.

Yes, yes, I need to stop. So why do they always look so pretty..?

I am serious this time though, it has to stop, before I get into serious trouble financially.

Greetings from Italy

I have been out of town this week. I went to Italy on business, and came back late last night. I spent a couple of days in Reggio Emilia and sadly just one day in Milan.

I hadn't visited Milan in ten years (TEN YEARS!!!), but the city felt incredibly familiar nevertheless.

This was my first visit to Reggio Emilia. Work took so much of my time that I didn't really get to see the town in daylight. From what I hear, there isn't a great deal to see, but my impression of Reggio Emilia was very positive. The people were friendly, and the town had a lovely, slow, rustic atmosphere. This is the "view" from my hotel room:

This is the town theatre:

Unfortunately I didn't have much spare time, but I did manage to do a tiny bit of shopping in both locations. I bought this dress at Manila Grace.

I will post pictures of my other finds very soon!

Today's outfit

Every time I come home, my little kitty Illusia shows me just how much she loves shoes. This really isn't the greatest of photos to show what she does, but she always keeps moving so it was difficult to take a good shot. Give her any pile of shoes, and as soon as I walk in the door, she will start rubbing herself against the shoes, purring and kneeding.

Discipline, anyone..?

My shopping strike lasted for -tadaa- 14 days..! I will not count in the one pair of trousers I bought at Zara a week or so ago, because I returned them the next day. But the boots above, I'm afraid, I cannot return. They are way too wonderful.

Baby has a name

My niece was christened today. It was very refreshing to wear pretty clothes instead of my tracksuit bottoms or pyjamas.

Longing for elegance

Since I have been sick for the past couple of days, I have taken full advantage of the situation and endulged myself with watching old Pink Panther films on DVD (none of that awful Steve Martin crap though - I still cannot believe someone actually thought that Martin could do justice to Clouseau).

I just discovered that in the first film of the series, Pink Panther (1963), Claudia Cardinale's and Capucine's outfits were designed by Yves Saint Laurent. No wonder they look so elegant in every single scene!

Why don't people look like this anymore? And no, I am not referring to Claudia Cardinale's impossibly perfect genes, or even her YSL dress. But where's all the glamour?

I am most certainly not the right person to be telling people to look more elegant, especially in my current state of lounging about in an oversized jumper, tracksuit bottoms and crocodile slippers, so whatever, just ignore my feverish mumblings. I just think the outfits in this film are seriously gorgeous and actually very wearable in the modern day. Now all I need is some grace, natural elegance and a good posture. A couple of vintage YSL pieces wouldn't hurt either.

The Waves - Fateful Days of the Blogger

When I was little, I thought that Romy Schneider as Sissi, the young to-be Kaiserin Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, was the most beautiful woman who ever lived. I have been thinking about her a lot lately.

In the last part of the film-trilogy, Sissi - Schicksalsjahre einer Kaiserin, Sissi falls ill with tuberculosis. Fearing that Sissi's life is in jeopardy, the royal doctors send her off to Madeira and then to Corfu to get well. This is what Sissi looks like, laying on her sick-bed in Madeira, taken care by her mother Ludovika (played by Romy Schneider's mother, Magda):

By the time they had spent some time (months, I would guess) at Corfu, Sissi has almost recovered and looks like this:

Now, I have been sick with the flu for the past three days, which is not half as bad as suffering from tuberculosis for months on end, and I look a lot worse than Sissi. I am wondering why my doctor is not sending me off to Corfu to get better and prettier. To those who say that Romy Schneider is not actually sick in the movie, I say poppycock! Apparently the heavy wig she had to wear during shooting the films caused her agonising migraines on a daily basis. Not only did she manage to look beautiful, but beautifully ill. I want some of that!

Faves of 2008

Since everyone else (Vasiliisa, Eyeliah to name a few) is doing it, I chose my favourite outfits from the past year:

Way to start the New Year!

I am very proud to announce that I have not bought a single fashion-related item this year! The cardigan in the picture is new though; it was a Christmas present from Chris R. It is just what I needed today, to battle the freezing cold. Well, I am not complaining about the weather though, at least it has been sunny!
