At the house

Little by little, we are getting closer to the day when we can contemplate moving in to our new house.
The kitchen cupboards and the island were installed today.

Our island comes with a fancy pop-up electric socket - perfect for blenders and such.

I'm happy with the kitchen style we chose - we went for a clean 1950s feel with a slight rustic touch. The top of the island is made of birch. The simple handles for the drawers are the same style one often sees in summer cottages from the 1950s.

The upstairs is coming along nicely. It will be our library / TV / office space.

Almost everything is white or off-white at this point. But ours won't be one of those now-oh-so-trendy-in-Finland houses where absolutely everything is modern and white. We decided to go with white surfaces so it will be easier to dress up and change up the vibe of the house with colourful curtains and rugs. The simple colour scheme allows plenty of room to play around with furniture choices.

We can't wait to move in. It will take another three to four weeks before everything is done. We are missing a staircase, the floors need refinishing and the plumbing is only half-way done. But soon, very soon, we will be able to enjoy our new home!

Looks beautiful so far. I like choosing neutral colors, like white, and pepping up/accenting with color. Allows for more freedom to change the look more often.
